Seamless, Transparent & Automatic Encryption

OfficeLock sofware protects data with "real-time" encryption. It automatically encrypts and decrypts files as they are used. Employees don't have to change the way they work - there's nothing new to learn or remember.

Simple Installation

OfficeLock components are simple to install and will have your files protected in minutes. No need to set up special "protected" folders. No need to reformat or partition your hard drive.

Application-Based Encryption

OfficeLock protection is application-based, not drive or folder-based. It seamlessly integrates data encryption into Windows applications to protect everything you create. An OfficeLock solution protects your emails and files no matter where they are located: on your desktop PC, laptop or anywhere on your network.

Minimal User Training

No steep learning curve. No experience necessary. Employees log on and that's it, the OfficeLock software does the rest. This means your organization saves money by avoiding additional overhead for user training.

Powerful & Fast Encryption

The OfficeLock product family uses an encryption engine the provides either 448-bit Blowfish encryption or, in the G2 product, FIPS 140-2 certified AES 256-bit encryption.  Blowfish is also fast, encrypting up to 8.3 megabytes per second on a Pentium 150, making OfficeLock very fast.

Open Source Code Encryption

Most publishers of data security software do not make the source code, and therefore the soundness, of their encryption engines readily available for public review and critique. In contrast, OfficeLock software uses "open source" encryption engine from OpenSSL.org The open source code of the OpenSSL encryption engine is freely available for cryptographic peer review and has withstood years of rigorous scrutiny by international experts.

Automatically Encrypted E-Mail Attachments

OfficeLock functionality seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express and Qualcomm's Eudora, allowing automatic encryption and decryption of files and documents attached to e-mail.

Binary File Shredding

When a file is "deleted", it is not really gone from your system. Hackers can still easily recover the original data. Closing this security gap is automatic for OfficeLock users as the product  shreds a deleted file by thoroughly wiping its binary data from the hard disk  so it cannot be recovered. The OfficeLock mechanism provides shredding that exceeds the U.S. Department of Defense mandated standards for secure file removal necessary to prevent unauthorized disclosure of classified information.

Risk-Free Temporary Files

Most Windows programs create temporary files which contain exact copies of your data. These temporary files are supposed to be deleted by the programs which create them. Hackers can easily recover this data, as they can with any deleted file. OfficeLock seamless integration with the applications automatically identifies, tracks and shreds temporary files so they can't be recovered.

Group Protection

How do you share files with co-workers and stay protected? An OfficeLock solution allows the creation of secure groups, with each group containing any number of authorized members. Once you join a secure group, no further steps need be taken. OfficeLock protection automatically encrypts and decrypts files and emails protected for the created group.  Members can always choose which files they want or don't want to share with the rest of the group.

An OfficeLock secure group can be comprised of senior management or partners, or it can be divisional, such as for Marketing, Finance or Human Resources. The OfficeLock secure group feature allows you to share encrypted files both over a network as well as via e-mail. You can therefore invite people from outside the network, such as vendors or consultants, to join specific groups.

Share Protected Files Among Multiple PCs

Installing OfficeLock software allows you to share protected files among multiple PCs, such as your laptop and desktop, or your office PC and your home PC. Using the special "Setup on Second PC" installation feature, both PCs can share the same encryption keys, allowing you to move files back and forth with no hassle.

Encrypting to Removable Media

OfficeLock functionality allows you to encrypt and decrypt files to and from removable media, such as floppy or zip disks. Your data files can now be transported securely.

Automatic Log-Off

If you leave your computer for an extended period of time, the OfficeLock security features will automatically log you off. This ensures that the prying eyes of unauthorized users cannot access your encrypted files. Automatic log-off can be set to occur after a period of keyboard/mouse inactivity ranging between one and sixty minutes.

Disaster Recovery & Key Escrow

During installation, OfficeLock user setup creates an escrowed key. This key enables recovery of encrypted data in the event an employee forgets a log-on password or in the event of employee termination. Using the escrowed key, the system administrator can generate a new log-on password, as well as gain access to any encrypted data.

Custom Levels of Protection

Although OfficeLock sofware always provides the same high level of security for encrypted files, you can choose from three different encryption automation levels: High, Medium and Low.

  • The High setting encrypts all files automatically.
  • The Medium setting interactively asks for permission to encrypt each time a file is closed.
  • The Low setting only provides encryption on demand.

Importantly, these settings can be customized on a per-application basis, so you can tailor your security policies to match the organizational needs. For example, an accountant may need to encrypt all Excel documents (High automation), some Word documents (Medium automation), and no Notepad or Adobe Acrobat documents (Low automation).

Searching for Encrypted Files

Unlike competing encryption software, OfficeLock protection enables you to search for files using properties such as title, author and keywords. Because of its seamless integration into Microsoft Office, OfficeLock software handles document data and document property information separately. The result is securely encrypted documents that can still be retrieved using Office file search tools, as well as document management systems.

Power Interruption Protection

The OfficeLock File Recovery feature protects you from data corruption even if your PC loses electrical power during file encryption or decryption.

Uninstalled Protection

With an OfficeLock installation, your files stay protected no matter what! Even if a hacker gains access and uninstalls the software from your system, your files will remain encrypted and protected!

Optimized for Microsoft Office

OfficeLock sofware is the only solution designed to integrate policy-based encryption seamlessly into all versions of Microsoft Office: 97, 2000, XP and 2003. It also automatically protects e-mail file attachments in Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express and Qualcomm Eudora. Additionally, OfficeLock protection has been extended to provide data security for the popular Adobe Acrobat file distribution format (PDF). Text files in WordPad and Notepad, as well as image files such as GIF, JPEG and BMP, are likewise protected.

"Any File" Protection

The OfficeLock Generic Encrypter/Decrypter extends OfficeLock Secure Workgroup protection to all files.  As file type proliferate, this feature's Windows Desktop and Explorer integration gives users that ability to secure single or groups of files, outside of the applications, with a few simple mouse clicks.

Compatibility

OfficeLock software is fully backwards and forwards compatible with Windows 98, NT 4.0, 2000, XP Professional, Windows 2000/2003 Terminal Services and Citrix.

Enterprise Edition

The OfficeLock Enterprise Edition includes all the features described above while also meeting the centralized administration needs of corporate and government enterprises who typically manage installations of 1000+ users. The Enterprise feature set enables administrators to remotely control all aspects of the OfficeLock user experience. OfficeLock Enterprise's features are designed to provide "top-down" management capability so that OfficeLock protection can be extended to completely control the storage, retrieval and transmission of business data.
